Standard 3.1

What is C&CCC Standard 3.1?

In Great Britain, all cheques must be printed according to C&CCC Standard 3.1, together with Standard 3.3. This is the specification set by the C&CCC for debit vouchers intended for automated processing and passing through the cheque clearing. Use of the two-part standard ensures that a cheque has the correct design, layout, information and security features to help prevent fraud and to help ensure that the cheque is processed efficiently and without errors.

Standard 3.1 covers the following aspects:

-  Physical characteristics of the voucher

-  Voucher design and layout regulations

-  Code line specifications

-  Completion of cheques

-  Holograms on cheques

-  Euro Denominated Cheques

Standard 3.3 sets out the technical details required by the C&CCC:

-  Code line character configurations

-  Magnetic printing

-  Attachments and adhesions

-  Cheque printing: current procedures for approval

-  Security features on cheques – procedures for approval

-  Cheques in data mailers – procedures for approval of suppliers
